Round two of the SAKA Summer Kiteboard Series took place on Saturday 16 January at KiteBeach, Tableview. The series is Presented by PriceCheck and supported by Kenings Car Hire and the whole kitesurfing industry!
The weather gods played nicely giving us ideal conditions for the Freestyle section kicking off just before midday. It was great to see good competition in all divisions from Pro and through all the Amateur sections too. The Pro Men put on an incredible display of top class freestyle manuevours with double handle pases being thrown in the mix in order to stand a chance to win!
On completion of the Freestyle and plenty of research on the forecast for the remainder of the weekend, a call was made to complete the Wave section as Sunday would be uncontestable. Riders went out in very testing conditions with small waves on offer although there were a number of decent sets developing during the changing tides. Again a very high standard of riding was displayed through all divisions despite the unfavourable conditions. Two strategies were put into place: either wait for the the sets which were bigger but fewer on offer, or ride whatever was presented in front of you and hope to turn it into something great!
We managed to get through both disciplines thanks to the extended sunlight that Cape Town offers in Summer! Well aware of how the podium champagne celebrations can chase a crowd away, all the winners were made to wait till after all the podiums were done before they were presented with their bottle of champagne and then it was just chaos of spraying bottles!
Round three of the SAKA Summer Kiteboard Series presented by PriceCheck will take place at KiteBeach, Tableview on 6 and 7 February – Entries close Thursday 4 February. Go to www.saka.co.za for all the information.
